A collection of captures and stories by Jaap Oosterhoff

Halde Haniel

Halde Haniel is a coal waste mountain near Bottrop and rises 128 meters above the surroundings. It is the highest mountain of waste that you can climb freely accessible in the Ruhr area. The nicest walk up is along the Cross Way. Museum pieces from the mining industry are exhibited in the hairpin bends.

An arena has been built on top of the hill for special gatherings. Also striking are the rows of colored totem poles made from mine beams by the Spanish artist Ibarrola.
